Annapurna Base Camp Trek via Ghorepani
The incredible trekking experience in the foothills of Annapurnas where you witness the beauty beyond imagination
Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of most rewarding yet one of the least challenging treks in the Himalayas! As the trail starts from mere 1500 m and meanders all the way to Annapurna Base Camp at 4130m, the trek offers a wonderful display of natural and cultural diversity one can experience in the Himalaya. Starting from Nayapul, a drive of about 2 hrs from Pokhara, the trail takes you through fascinating traditional villages of Nepal’s ethnic communities Gurung and Magar who will greet you very warmly if you care to stop for a conversation. Continuing through the dense rhododendron forest with towering snowy peaks in the background, you witness breathtaking views of an early morning sunrise at Poon Hill where a red halo seeps through glistening gaps over the snow-capped peaks of the Annapurna & Dhaulagiri Mountains. As you move ahead leaving the quaint cultural hotspots behind, you enter more alpine zone. You will clearly notice the change in landscape as you trail past Machhapuchhre Base Camp to finally reach Annapurna Base Camp, which is an amphitheater of some of the highest peaks in the world; Annapurna I (8091 m), Annapurna South (7219 m), the fishtail Machapuchhre (6993 m), and Hiunchuli (6441 m). After some memorable experiences at the Base Camp, you retrace your journey to Nayapul, where your trek comes to and end.
The Annapurna Base Camp trek is even more interesting in spring as the whole forest along the trail turns red, pink and white with rhododendron flowers. This wonder trip can be done anytime of the year except during the monsoons (July to August).
